Pop Radio returns with ‘Time/Afterlife’, a two-part lead single transmission led by Alex Halsey and longtime collaborator Max Tarrant.
The track pairs the project’s bedrock psych-rock sound on ‘Time’ written by Halsey, with Tarrant’s environmental folk companion piece ‘Afterlife’, moving from punchy, sun-baked garage rock into spacious, elemental territory new to the Pop Radio sound.
Recorded to tape by group leader Halsey inside Repentance Creek Hall in rural NSW, the single weaves flute, clarinet and communal vocals through a performance shaped as much by the surrounding environment as by the band themselves.

The Pop Radio story begins with Alex Halsey’s decision to make a cross country voyage in his Grandfather’s Falcon, with a box trailer full of music gear. Perth to Sydney via the desert, where he dialled in the Pop Radio sound during the pandemic. Then from Sydney to the Northern Rivers, where the album was layered to tape from a home studio visited by floodwaters.
